Welcome to the MultioptiX Group
December 2025
Martina Schmid's and Jan Lucaßen's (now Berger) paper has been published in the journal Applied Physics A. “Chemical vapor deposition of indium precursors for solar micro-absorbers using continuous laser radiation“. 10.1007/s00339-025-08895-z (author version). The October issue of Applied Physics A featured an illustration from the paper on its cover. What an honour!
We would also like to welcome our new master student Stefan Balters. Welcome to our group, Stefan!
October 2025
The winter semester 2025/26 is about to begin. Professor Schmid and Jan Berger are offering a seminar entitled 'Energy Systems Compared', featuring many interesting and renowned speakers. Everyone interested is cordially invited to attend. Have a look at the schedule to see what interesting lectures are on offer.

RefDex is unique software that allows the refractive index (n, k) to be recalculated directly from the measured transmission and reflection of a thin film. We provide a version for download on our homepage, which is suitable for both non-commercial and commercial users. Since 2019, we have achieved over 200 downloads from more than 100 institutions worldwide!
July 2025
A new video presentation is published on our website: virtual lab tours. Zhibo Zhao explains the basics of chalcopyrite solar cells.
July 2025
On Tuesday, 2nd July, we went on an outing with the MultioptiX group. We went canoeing on the River Lippe. Some of us were experiencing canoeing for the first time, but with the help of the others, we all managed it well! Despite the hot weather, we all had a great time. After the two-hour tour, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Lindenwirtin restaurant, then headed back home just as the heavy rain and hail started. Thankfully, everyone arrived home safely.
May 2025
We would like to announce that Martina Schmid's Perspective paper has been published in the journal Solar RRL. “Heuristic Rule of Thumb for Tandem Solar Cells and Perspectives for the Future“. 10.1002/solr.202500060 (author version).
April 2025
Eight years after Martina Schmid's appointment as professor, the last conversion measures have been successfully completed! On this occasion, we have organized an inauguration celebration of the AG Schmid laboratories on April 1, 2025.
This celebration was a perfect opportunity to thank all those who were involved in the conversion work, and to inaugurate the new laboratories together. Thank you!

Camillo Hinz has successfully completed his master's thesis on “Fabrication of nanostructures by
multiphoton polymerisation and their integration into ultrathin CIGSe solar cells“. Congratulations, Camillo! (thesis on request)
June 2024
On Friday 28th June, Yao Gao had his PhD defense. After the defense, our team and part of Professor Winterer's group had pizza and a few cold drinks in the MultioptiX group. Congratulations, Yao!
June 2024
On Thursday 20th June we made an excursion to TopGolf in Oberhausen with the MultioptiX group. The weather was fantastic so that part of the group cycled to the location. Most of most us have made their first experience with playing Golf. After 2 hours golfing we had a delicious lunch at the l'Osteria before we head back home.
In June, Martina also invited us and our families to a BBQ @ her house. The weather was perfect on that day.
