Dr. Julian Sudhoff

Dr. Julian Sudhoff obtained a joint degree in English and Biology (Staatsexamen Sekundarstufe I und II) to then present a doctoral thesis entitled Interkulturelles Lernen im Bilingualen Unterricht - Eine Studie zur Konzeption eines Kriterienkatalogs für die qualitative Analyse von Lehrwerken (available online: see below). He serves as a lecturer and researcher (Akademischer Oberrat) for EFL Education and Applied Linguistics at the Institute of Anglophone Studies, University of Duisburg-Essen. In the course of his academic career, Julian spent a year at Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London. At the same time, he earned a Trinity College TESOL certificate (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

His main research interests are language teaching methodology, Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), intercultural communicative competence, second language acquisition and bilingualism. Especially in the research field of CLIL, Julian is involved and participates in national and European projects.

The English department of the University of Koblenz-Landau as well as the Technische Akademie Wuppertal repeatedly invited Julian to conduct seminars and courses. As congress manager of AILA2008 - 15th World Congress of Applied Linguistics he played an integral part in the steering committee of this renowned academic convention. His expertise in managing academic venues led to his involvement in co-organising the GMF-Bundeskongress Fremdsprachen as well as the GAL 2018 (50. Jubiläumskongress der Gesellschaft für Angewandte Linguistik). On top of this, he repeatedly co-organised CLIL Summer Schools at the University of Duisburg-Essen. More recently, Dr. Sudhoff was asked to act as academic advisor for MeinSchulprojekt and for Qualitäts- und UnterstützungsAgentur - Landesinstitut für Schule, NRW.
