Vortrag auf der EuSARF Konferenz 2025

Im Rahmen der EuSARF Konferenz 2025 „Transformation, Transition and Innovation in Child Welfare“ (Link) hält Rebecca Mörgen einen Vortrag zu dem Thema "Eternal paths to a more self-determined life of unaccompanied minors in their transitions to adulthood in Europe – A lot is being done for unaccompanied minors, the people who are 18 for them it's very difficult: young refugees in Switzerland".

When unaccompanied minors reach the age of majority in Switzerland, many support services are withdrawn and the right to protected residence is lost. This creates new challenges for young people to overcome. These challenges are accompanied by constant uncertainty. Added to this are the conditions imposed on them and their role as 'refugees'. Both the transition to adulthood and their status as refugees are accompanied by experiences of marginalisation and exclusion. As care leavers, young refugees face particular challenges: a language barrier, finding their way in a foreign system and society, as well as hurdles related to residence rights. Although the situation of young refugees has been studied in various ways in recent years, there is little systematic knowledge about their marginalisation, which is characterised by the interplay of age-related and ethnic-cultural exclusion dynamics. How do young refugees experience the transition to adulthood? What challenges do they face? How do they deal with the associated marginalisation?
