Scientific seminars

An important part of our training program consists of regular fortnightly meetings. These meetings contain either a scientific seminar or a methods course, followed by one or two students' progress reports. The scientific seminars in the areas of infectious diseases and immunology are given by invited national and international speakers. The location rotates between Essen and Düsseldorf.

Methods courses

The methods courses are given by selected guest who present and discuss advanced techniques in the field of infection and immunology. The focus of these presentations is on technical aspects in order to provide a broad education in experimental techniques (e.g. multi-color flow cytometry, in vivo imaging, real-time PCR, cell sorting techniques, vector and cloning techniques, animal and cell culture models for infections, gene silencing, etc.), but also on analysis strategies such as analysis of large datasets (e.g. deep sequencing data, RNAseq, GWAS, micro arrays).
