Department of Geography

The Department Introduction and contact persons
Geography at the UDE has existed since the founding of its predecessor at the beginning of the 1970s and was re-established during the fusion of the two colleges Duisburg and Essen in the year 2004.
As of 2010 the Institute is integrated into the faculty of humanities on the Essen Campus where it currently consists of two specialist fields: Economic Geography (with special focus on traffic and logistics) and Didactics of Primary Social and Science Education.
The department is committed to the education and training of teachers and is currently actively involved in numerous Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. Special focus lies in contributing to public discourse in politics, society and economics through the lens of our field expertise. Furthermore, our specialist fields are internationally connected in science and practice.
