For anyone who wants to take courses in the supplementary area, learn languages or pursue personal development.

Supplementary courses

Credits can be earned in bachelor's and some master's programs (excluding teacher training) as part of the compulsory elective modules E1 and E3 of the supplementary area. 

Module E1 comprises courses on methodological skills and language courses. Module E3 Liberal Studies provides insights into other subjects.

Learning languages

We offer a comprehensive program of courses that is open to students of all disciplines (BA, MA, LA, Med).

You can choose from courses in 20 languages at various levels, which can be taken in Module E1 to catch up on language requirements for your studies or for personal development purposes.

Personal development

Many courses that you can take as part of your supplementary studies or for personal development can be credited towards certificates. Include certificates with your application documents and show employers what skills you have acquired beyond your studies:

  • Certificate for education for sustainable development
  • Certificate for internationalization
  • Certificate for diversity and gender (UA Ruhr)

Registration is only possible via LSF.

Please note that different registration procedures apply to IwiS classes than to the courses in your study program.
