The Soft Skills Summer is an initiative by the CRC 1242, the CRR/TRR 247, the CRC/TRR270, 2D-Mature, CENIDE, and the team for Equal Opportunities of the Faculty of Physics at the University of Duisburg-Essen. We would like to invite you to be a part of it and to improve your soft skills.

Mental Strength in Academia for Early-Career Researchers

Content

This workshop is designed to support you as a PhD researchers in navigating the unique challenges of PhD life - from managing your research and publications to balancing teaching duties and personal development. We will explore effective strategies for stress management and ways to foster a positive emotional balance. You will learn how to identify your personal stress triggers in academia and transform limiting beliefs into empowering ones, and apply practical methods to strengthen your emotional resilience. As topics such as self-doubt, dealing with stress due to a high mental load or overcoming limiting beliefs tend to affect women in science in a particular way, we will cover these in our discussions.

Visibly Successful - Social Media Training (LinkedIn, ResearchGate, Instagram) for Female Scientists

Content

​An increasing number of scientists are successfully presenting their expertise on social media. Platforms such as LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, ResearchGate, blogs and podcasts offer researchers great opportunities to engage in public debates about science, communicate their work and interests, and expand their professional networks.
But how can you benefit from an active social media presence, and what rules must you observe when communicating online? How can you strengthen your digital profile? And how can AI support your science communication?
This interactive social media seminar introduces you to virtual science communicationthrough practical exercises, providing tips and tricks on how to effectively and enjoyably use selected social media platforms. You will learn how to communicate your science in a way that is easy to understand, how to set the right tone on social media and how to cultivate virtual exchanges with various interest groups.

What the Workshop is about:
