Thesis Topic:  Evaluating the Impact of Textual vs. Visual Explanations on User Trust, Transparency, and Satisfaction in an Educational Recommender System

Description: This thesis investigates how different explanation formats, i.e., textual or visual, impact users' trust, transparency, and satisfaction with an educational recommender system in CourseMapper. It introduces a textual explanation generation framework using a template-based method to deliver high-quality textual explanations. Through a comparative user study, the research evaluates which explanation type is more effective across key user experience metrics and examines the role of personality profiles in shaping these outcomes. Additionally, we aim to explore how individual personality traits moderate users' perception of and preference for these explanations.
