ZWU Network
The ZWU Network:
Broad-based, forward-looking and interdisciplinary environmental and water research
As a centralised and staffed institution at the UDE, the ZWU currently connects members from over 30 working groups and 5 faculties at the UDE, as well as partner universities in the UA Ruhr and external scientific and practical institutions.
By networking over 300 members, the ZWU can draw on concentrated expertise and competence in the fields of aquatic ecology, aquatic ecosystem research, biodiversity, algae research, hydrogeology, drinking water treatment and distribution (contamination, assessment, remediation), environmental toxicology and chemistry, water and wastewater management, hydrology, hydraulic engineering and water governance with economic and legal expertise.
At the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE), water and environmental research is pooled across faculties at the Centre for Water and Environmental Research (ZWU).
The ZWU has members from more than 30 working groups in the faculties of biology, chemistry, medicine, engineering and social sciences at the UDE.
The ZWU's water expertise is further strengthened by the UDE's affiliated institutes:
the affiliated institutes active in the water sector, IWW Centre for Water and the Institute for Environment & Energy, Technology & Analysis (IUTA), as well as the Rhine-Ruhr Institute for Social Research and Policy Consulting (RISP) and the German Textile Research Centre North-West (DTNW).
In addition to pooling water research within the university, in recent years the ZWU has also been able to integrate the water expertise of the two partner universities in the Ruhr University Alliance (UA Ruhr) :
Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) and
Dortmund Technical University (TUD)
into the network.
At the same time, the ZWU connects water-related research institutions and universities of applied sciences in the region, regional water associations, water suppliers and disposal companies, and water management companies.
