Summary:
The Biology Education Research and Learning Lab and Aquatic Ecosystem Research working groups at the University of Duisburg-Essen are conducting the Citizen Science project "DNA macht Schule" (DNA makes it into school). The project is funded by the German Federal Environment Agency and is developing new ideas for water research and environmental observation in schools. Students from elementary school and high school learn about biodiversity using environmental DNA and metabarcoding methods. The aim is to compile missing data on the biodiversity of selected small water bodies in North Rhine-Westphalia.
