EU FundedeDNAqua-Plan: supporting aquatic biodiversity monitoring systems

Duration: 2023-2026
Current Phase: Phase I

Summary:

eDNAqua-Plan (2023–2026), coordinated by EMBRC and funded by Horizon Europe (€1.98M), aims to assess and harmonize aquatic biodiversity monitoring using eDNA. The project collects information on EU and international monitoring initiatives, evaluates standardization efforts, and explores developing a FAIR-based digital ecosystem linking eDNA repositories with a dynamic marine and freshwater species reference library. Comprising 18 partners from 11 countries and one UN institute, eDNAqua-Plan includes five work packages on management, gap analysis, data standards, use cases, and roadmap development. Collaborating with infrastructures like EMODnet, LifeWatch, and OBIS, it will produce a roadmap for harmonized eDNA-based monitoring.
