Presentation of the Research Infrastructure
Cooperation within the UA Ruhr has been further intensified through the establishment of the Research Alliance and joint applications within the framework of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal Government and the States.
In order to further promote research cooperation within the network and achieve a better external image for the research infrastructure, the vice-rectors for research at the three universities are planning to use software for a joint presentation of the research infrastructure.
First and foremost, the operators and users of large-scale equipment will be offered the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the software.
In addition, the aim is to show which large-scale equipment is available at the UDE, but also at the three universities in the long term, in order to create transparency both internally and externally, to generate synergies and promote collaboration, and optionally to improve equipment management, e.g. with regard to maintenance intervals (increasing efficiency). Isolated solutions are outdated and hinder cooperation with partners.
The Calira software chosen by the UA Ruhr research vice-rectors is a device-sharing platform as a cloud solution. It is used to display device details and manage resources. Each user unit has access to maintain data, process requests and send invitations to the respective devices. To date, 12,000 laboratories worldwide are working with the software.
Hints
The use of Calira is free of charge for working groups/device centres, device administrators and users at the UDE, and licences have been procured centrally for two years.
Optional functions such as booking calendars and maintenance tools can be used to administer the devices. The calendar can be deactivated. It is also possible to control who can see the device. Specific rights and usage times can be set.
There is no disadvantage at any time if these functions are not used. The respective equipment manager decides on the activation and personal access options to the booking calendar of a piece of equipment.
There is no obligation to charge usage fees for booking and carrying out work on the registered equipment in the course of the introduction and use of Calira.
