Membership

The Mercator Graduate Programme Open-Mindedness, Tolerance and Public Engagement is one of the University of Duisburg-Essen’s graduate research
programmes. Its offices are located in the City of Duisburg. Events such as guest lectures, workshops and conferences are open to all members of the
University of Duisburg-Essen and interested guests.

Members of the Mercator Graduate Programme include all supervising professors, the Mercator Graduate Programme’s PhD students as well as the
postdoctoral researchers, including those working on their Second Book.

PhD students who are not employed at the University of Duisburg-Essen but qualify for admission, may apply for an associated membership to participate in the qualification programme and to participate in conferences and workshops.

Programme Structure

The Mercator Graduate Programme Open-Mindedness, Tolerance and Public Engagement is overseen by a representative and a deputy, both elected by an executive committee, who represent the Graduate Programme’s interests within University of Duisburg-Essen as well as without. The programme representative also speaks for the Mercator Graduate Programme to Stiftung Mercator.

The Mercator Graduate Programme’s executive committee is comprised of all supervising professors as full members, the Graduate Programme’s coordinator, their deputy, and two elected representatives of the Graduate Programme’s PhD students as advisory members.

The Mercator Graduate Programme’s PhD students elect one representative and one deputy who will represent them with the regard to committee and graduate programme concerns.

The Mercator Graduate Programme’s daily operations are a coordinator’s purview. The coordinator will be assisted by a secretary.
