Prof. Dr. Hermann Josef Abs

Hermann J. ABS holds the chair for Educational research and Schooling at the University of Duisburg-Essen since 2013.

He joins the faculty after having been a Professor for Research in Schooling and Teaching at the University of Giessen since 2009 and the managing director of the Institute for School Pedagogy and Citizenship Education in 2010-2012 there. He also lectured at the University of Frankfurt (2002-2009) and at the University of Freiburg (1997-2000). Outside the university, Abs worked as a project coordinator and project leader for national and international projects in the area of citizenship education at the German Institute for International Educational Research (DIPF) in Frankfurt, Main from 2002 to 2009. Earlier on, he taught at upper secondary schools in the course of a teacher induction programme for two years. Abs got his academic education at the Universities of Bonn and Freiburg, where he studied German literature and language, theology, philosophy and education. He also earned a degree as supervisor and coach by the Austrian Federal Institute for Adult Education.

Eva Anderson-Park

Eva ANDERSON-PARK is part of a research team, evaluating the qualification program for Teach First Germany Fellows at the University of Duisburg-Essen since May 2014.

Graduated from the University of Mannheim in educational sciences, sociology and English Anderson-Park is focussing on quantitative research methods and evaluation. After graduation, she worked at the service center for evaluation of teaching at Philipps-Universität Marburg. Since May 2009, Anderson-Park is a research assistant at Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen and finishes her dissertation in the field of teacher education (supervisor H. J. Abs). Her fields of research are teacher education, diagnostics and quantitative research analyses.

Daniel Deimel

Daniel Deimel

Daniel DEIMEL is a researcher at the University of Duisburg-Essen since November 2014. He is involved in the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study 2016.

Previously Deimel completed the Diploma degree programme Rehabilitation Sciences at the TU Dortmund in 2010. As part of his thesis “Computer game addiction and body image”, he analyzed cognitive aspects of body awareness among consumers of online role-playing games. After graduating he was employed as project manager in the initiative "Schalke macht Schule" from January 2011 to October 2014. 2015 Deimel completed the master degree programme Social Management at the Hochschule Niederrhein.

Barbara Frede

Barbara FREDE joins the team of Prof. Hermann J. Abs, who holds the chair of Educational Research, with a focus on school education, since April 2014 as an administrative assistant.

Since October 2013, she works for the University of Duisburg-Essen, Faculty of Educational Sciences. Prior to this, she graduated as an office clerk at the IHK Mittleres Ruhrgebiet (Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Bochum). Further positions, amongst others, had been administration assistant and secretary in projects of international developmental cooperation (GIZ) in South America and administrative employee at the Ruhr-University of Bochum.

Dr. Katrin Hahn-Laudenberg

Katrin Hahn-Laudenberg

Katrin Hahn-Laudenberg is a postdoctoral researcher fellow at the University of Duisburg-Essen since September 2016. She is involved in the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study 2016.

In 2007 she completed the master of arts programme Political Science, Sociology and Public Law / International Law at the University of Bonn. In her thesis she analyzed the pupils` opportunities to participate in school. After graduating she was a research fellow at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Education Karlsruhe until 2009.
Her doctoral thesis with the title “Pupils` concepts of democracy. Changes in political knowledge how to diagnose it using Concept Maps.” was published in the year 2017 by Springer. From 2002 until 2016 she was furthermore working as a trainer for Civic Education focused on supporting pupils’ participation. Since April 2018 she is working as visiting professor for Didactics of Social Sciences and Civic Education at the University of Wuppertal.

Stefanie Morgenroth

Dr. Stefanie Morgenroth is part of the team of Prof. Dr. Abs since April 2016. She is involved in the EU- project „A New Way for New Talents in Teaching (NEWTT)“. The main research focus of Stefanie Morgenroth is in the area of teacher professionalization.

From the year 2001 to 2006 Dr. Stefanie Morgenroth completed the diploma degree programme Education (with the main focus on Vocational Pedagogy and Adult Education) at the Technical University Dortmund.

After graduating she worked in the private sector for 2.5 years. From the year 2009 to 2016, she was a research fellow in interdisciplinary research projects at the Institute of Educational Research in the school of education at the University of Wuppertal (“Project LIMa - An intervention study on the introduction of new curricula for mathematics classes in primary school” and “Project SEBI - Self-orientation and self-directed learning: an analysis of socialization and learning environments of primary school children”). Since 2012 she is a member of the board of the "Stress and Anxiety Research Society”. Her doctoral thesis with the title “Teacher cooperation among innovation stress. Social coping as a valuable guide" was published in the year 2015 by Springer.

Johanna Ziemes

Johanna Ziemes

Since December 2014 Johanna Ziemes is a researcher at the University of Duisburg-Essen. She is part of the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study 2016.

Prior to this assignment, Ziemes studied psychology at the University of Trier. Thereby she focused on questions related to academic self-concept, giftedness and identity. In addition, while she was an ERASMUS student at the Mid Sweden University, Ziemes obtained a one-year master degree in psychology specializing in work, industrial and organizational psychology. Since October 2013 Ziemes attends part-time a DGSF-certified training in systemic counseling.
