Study with teaching option

The subject History is studied as part of the bachelor's and master's degree program with the teacher training option for secondary schools or as part of the teacher training option for grammar schools and comprehensive schools. In addition, the subject History is relevant for the area Natural and Social Sciences (Sachunterricht) in the bachelor's and master's degree program with the teaching option Elementary School.

The subject History in the two-subject bachelor's program is studied in combination with an equally weighted subject science as well as an interdisciplinary study component (supplementary area). The subject History can be continued in the 2-subject master's program or in the new 2-subject master's program "History Practice Intercultural" established in the winter semester 2018/19.

Doctoral Studies

The qualified completion (with good grades) of a master's program in history will be capable of accessing sources to present and communicate the results a doctoral program. For admission you will need a statement from the supervisor about the willingness to supervise the dissertation. For this purpose, please schedule a personal interview with the professors of the Department of History who have a professional affinity to the project you are engaged in.

Knowledge of Latin

Important: Please note that in the subject area History only proof of the official state examinations for the Latinum (kleines Lateinum) held by the district government are accepted, consisting of a written and an oral examination. It is not sufficient to merely submit proof of participation or examination from an external provider (e.g. of crash courses).
