Vita
Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Elsa Andrea Kirchner has been a professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen since 2021, where she heads the institute "Medical Technology Systems" at the Faculty of Engineering. She also cooperates with the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence and heads the "Intelligent Healthcare Systems" team at the Robotics Innovation Center in Bremen. Here she has led various teams in the areas of human-machine interaction and machine learning over many years.
After her studies in biology, she was awarded the sponsorship prize of the "Familie Klee" Foundation. A research stay at the "Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences", MIT in Boston, USA, laid the foundation for her strongly interdisciplinary research. This was followed by your PhD in Computer Science, which was awarded as one of the best dissertations in 2014 by the Gesellschaft für Informatik.
In the spirit of transferring research and development, she is also a founding member of the DLR Space Management network "Space2Health", founded in 2020 and funded by the BMWi. From 2018 to August 2022, she was a member of "Germany’s Platform for Artificial Intelligence " in Working Group 6: "Health Care, Medical Technology, Care". Since September 2022, she has taken over the co-leadership of WG 7 "Learning Robotics Systems" here. In April 2023, she was appointed as a member of the Council for Technology Sovereignty of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Berlin.
