Medical Technology Systems - Project "myOn"
myOn
High-resolution wearable long-term EMG for diagnosis, secondary prevention, and therapy evaluation of neuromuscular and central nervous system disorders.
Within the collaborative research project myOn, the Department of Medical Technology Systems works closely with the Department of Neurology at University Hospital Essen, the Department Integrated Systems at Ruhr University Bochum, and ID4us GmbH to develop an innovative and forward-looking high-resolution wearable long-term EMG system.
The objective of the project is to realize an everyday-suitable system that simultaneously captures human movement and muscle activity in high resolution and in real time, wirelessly and directly on the body. For the first time, this approach aims to enable a quantitative long-term analysis of neuromuscular functions in daily life, comparable to a long-term ECG, but for skeletal muscle activity.
myOn is intended to serve as a novel technological tool for differential diagnosis, therapy evaluation, and secondary prevention of numerous muscular and neurological diseases. Through the continuous acquisition and objective quantification of muscle activity, movement, and fatigue, disease progression can be assessed more precisely and therapy effects can be evaluated more reliably. In addition, concepts for telemedical applications and continuous monitoring outside clinical environments are being developed.
Technologically, myOn combines wireless EMG sensing, radar-based energy-efficient localization, and AI-driven signal processing into an integrated wearable system. The synchronized acquisition and intelligent fusion of movement and EMG data aim to establish a novel, high-resolution data foundation for the clinical assessment of neuromuscular function.
