Prof. Dr. Gerd Witt | Production Technology

Personal Details

Prof. Dr. Gerd Witt studied at the University of Karl-Marx-Stadt from 1975 to 1979. He received his Ph.D. in 1982 and earned his postdoctoral lecturer qualification in 1990. Throughout the period from 1979 to 1990, he was academic assistant in the field of "Manufacturing process design" at the former Technical University of Karl-Marx-Stadt. Afterwards, he switched to industrial work. During his eight years of activities he was member of the management board of the ABB Service GmbH Germany and the senior manager for the branch office Berlin. He held the position of technical director of the Niles-Simmons industrial facilities GmbH. In addition to his professional activities, he worked in expert groups and program committees of the Federal Ministry of Research and Technology ("Expert Group for the Evaluation of Basic Research Tasks", "Production 2000"). In 1998, he accepted a call on the professorship for Manufacturing Processes and Machine Tools of the Gerhard-Mercator-University of Duisburg. A year later, Prof. Witt took over the position of deputy chairman of the VDI-Ruhr district association.
