The University of Duisburg-Essen is making the Chat AI tool, which features various large language models (LLMs), available to its members free of charge via the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG).

Please note that the instructions given to the system (known as ‘prompts’) must not contain any sensitive or personal data! Uploading copyright-protected content is not permitted.

If you wish to log in to Chat AI, please select the University of Duisburg-Essen as your institution via ‘Federated Login’.

  • You will then be redirected to Shibboleth.
  • The first time you log in to the Academic Cloud, a window will appear showing an overview of the information that will be transferred for the purpose of using Chat AI.
  • Please do not deselect any of this information, as you will otherwise be unable to use Chat AI.

If you have already opted out of sharing certain information via Shibboleth, please use your web browser’s incognito mode and log in again.

  • In Shibboleth, tick the box labelled ‘Change my previous consent to share my information with the service’ and enable the sharing of all the information listed.

ChatGPT-4 quota allocation

LLM ChatGPT-4 is a paid tool, so we ask that you use it in a way that conserves resources. The UDE covers the costs for all UDE members up to a capped token allowance. Should this allowance be used up, you will be notified via ChatAI.

Voluntary use

The use of Chat AI is voluntary and cannot be mandated for work or study purposes.
