Dr. Luisa Alfes

Luisa Alfes is currently teaching in the field of EFL Education with a special focus on the value of literature and culture in the foreign language classroom. Moreover, she focuses on other core issues such as assessing learners of English, methods and approaches to EFL Education, learners' diversity and inclusion. The combination of her two subjects, English as a Foreign Language and Fine Arts is another of her research interests and she discusses the question of how Fine Arts can help students to foster their language development. 

Luisa Alfes studied English and Art for German secondary schools at the University of Duisburg-Essen. During her time as a student, she received the UDE-scholarship and went to Adelaide, Australia. There, she worked at Norwood Morialta High School and gave lessons in ESL, Visual Art/Design and German.

In 2013, Luisa Alfes completed her first state examination (Erstes Staatsexamen) and worked as a relief teacher at St. Ursula Gymnasium in Dorsten afterwards. From 2014 - 2015 she worked as a trainee teacher at Marienberg Gymnasium in Neuss and completed her second state examination (Zweites Staatsexamen). Having returned to university life, Luisa Alfes pursued her Ph.D. thesis on the importance and implementation of multimodal literature in the foreign language classroom.

Besides her academic career, Luisa dedicates her spare time to the process of making art herself, when painting and drawing pictures. Further, she loves travelling to new countries and exploring cultures.
