Magdalena Klaes

Magdalena Klaes (she/her) is a research assistant in EFL Education at the University of Duisburg-Essen. She studied English and Pedagogy to become a teacher for secondary education at Bielefeld University and graduated with a master’s degree (Master of Education für das Lehramt an Gymnasien und Gesamtschulen) in 2024. During her studies, she volunteered at a preschool in a township near Cape Town. She completed her teacher training (Zweites Staatsexamen) in 2025 at Kreisgymnasium Halle (Westf.).

Her main research interests revolve around education for sustainable development (Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung), and its meaningful implementation in English Language Teaching (ELT). Magdalena is part of the UDE-based Graduiertenkolleg zu querschnittlichen Fragen der Lehrkräftebildung (GKQL). In line with the current cohort’s focus on Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung im Kontext von Mensch-Umwelt-Fragen, her PhD project explores the conceptualisation and development of a seminar framework that addresses the implementation of education for sustainable development in ELT.
