Master/Bachelor/Praktikum
Upstream migration of invertebrates in flowing watercourses
Bachelor’s degree/Internship
Duration: Depending on the type of programme
Start: June 2026
Supervision: Pia Knobloch, Damian Biehs, Dr. Kamil Hupalo
Content: Sampling, taxonomic identification, chemical analysis, statistical data analysis
In the summer of 2026, we will enrich a river system with heavy nitrogen (¹⁵N) to learn more about the dispersal of the flying stages of aquatic insects (further information). We are also interested in the dispersal of hololimnic invertebrates in this system, particularly their upstream migration - this could be your topic.
Your tasks will include collecting gammarids in the field, subsequent species identification in the laboratory, chemical analysis using IRMS, and the statistical evaluation of the results.
Experience with the methods is an advantage but not necessary.
