Computer Science Day 2026: A Look Back at a Day Dedicated to Human-Computer Interaction

Computer Science Day 2026: A Look Back at a Day Dedicated to Human-Computer Interaction

On September 29, the Fraunhofer inHaus Center in Duisburg became a meeting place for science, business, and society. Under the motto “Designed for Humans – The Future of Human-Computer Interaction,” Computer Science Day 2026 offered insights into current research and demonstrated the diverse ways in which the interface between humans and technology can be conceived.

The three invited speakers provided particularly thought-provoking insights. Dr. Jessica M. Szczuka spoke about the growing importance of AI for interpersonal relationships and, with “Intimacy by Design: When AI Becomes Interpersonal,” presented a particularly socially relevant perspective on artificial intelligence. Dr. Gero Strobel took visitors into a world in which AI is no longer just digital but gains “hands and feet.” Finally, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Prilla shed light on the collaboration between humans and robots and demonstrated how interaction can lead to genuine collaboration.

In addition to the presentations, the focus was primarily on the research conducted by the Department of Computer Science. During the poster session, early-career researchers presented their current projects and engaged directly in conversation with the guests. The diverse range of topics highlighted just how broad the field of computer science research is and how many aspects of our daily lives are impacted by the development of new technologies.

A special highlight of the day was the presentation of the Best Poster Award, sponsored by Duisburger Versorgungs- und Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (DVV). The winners were Lisa Mühl (1st place), Yannick Wuttke (2nd place), and Jonas Keppel (3rd place). The three were particularly able to impress the jury with their posters.

The day was rounded off by a get-together afterward. During conversations in a relaxed atmosphere, participants were able to reflect on the day’s experiences, make new connections, and bring together the different perspectives from research and practice.

Computer Science Day 2026 has thus once again demonstrated how important it is to discuss how technology can be designed in a way that not only works technically but is also people-centered. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the speakers, young researchers, supporters, and guests who contributed to a diverse and inspiring day.
