The Japanese Economy under Abenomics – Risks and Opportunities

The presentation analyzes the present state of the Japanese economy, looks at the reasons for the weak growth performance over the last twenty years and gives an overview of the major challenges ahead, i.e. demographic change, globalization, energy, and public debt. Along with the assessment of the present situation, past performance and major challenges, it will be asked whether "Abenomics" is addressing the right questions and undertaking the right measures.
Franz Waldenberger is since 1997 Professor for Japanese Economy at the Japan Center of Munich University. His often comparative research on Japan covers a broad range of topics, like employment, finance, fiscal policy, international economic relations, industrial organization or corporate governance.
