Water Research - a Strategic Research Area of the UDE
Water - it should be safe, clean and accessible to supply billions of people. The utilization of water as a resource is on the rise. This is why the sustainable and global water cycle is one of the most significant social challenges of our time.
As a result, the UDE has established a strategic research area that focuses on water research. In light of the pollution of water resources and the increasing water scarcity exacerbated by climate change, more than 280 water experts are working on the topic of water as an irreplaceable resource and valuable ecosystem under the guidance of the Centre for Water and Environmental Research (ZWU).
Coordination The ZWU
The ZWU is a network of the three universities of the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr), as well as affiliated institutes of the UDE, universities of applied sciences, research institutes, and actors from society, politics, and industry. Currently, the ZWU has over 280 members from the water and environmental research sector.
What we focus on Research
Water experts from the natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, humanities, and medicine are involved in the strategic research area by collaborating with practice partners on the topic of water.
What we work on Joint projects
The ZWU network is involved in a number of inter- and transdisciplinary collaborative projects.
A selection of these research projects can be found here.
What we offer Infrastructure
UDE members and external interested parties can access different analyses from various research laboratories in the ZWU network, which have state-of-the-art equipment and competent contact persons.
How we support our young academics Early career researchers
The support of young scientists is provided by various offers. The Water Graduate School and the Young Scientist Award are complementary to the UDE's offerings for young scientists.
