Burns Supper

Join us for a traditional dinner to celebrate the life of the Scottish bard! The second Anglophone Studies Burns Supper will take place on 24 January 2023 in the Glaspavillion. Students and staff are cordially invited to celebrate the works of the Scottish national poet. The evening will offer a traditional mix of fine Scottish food and drink, dance and music, as well as literary and linguistic contributions. Tickets are available from 9 Jan at R12 R05 A42, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 2 to 3 pm. Student rate: €14 (Special discount for contributors to the programme. Ask for details when buying your ticket.) Staff rate: €20.

New Study Programme, MA Anglophone Popular Culture

Both the increasingly globalized job market and the continuous advancement of academia require graduates from research-focused master programmes with competencies in more than one culture and language. By guiding students towards independent, competitive research projects and by teaching exclusively in English, students’ intercultural competencies (esp. in terms of Anglophone Popular Culture) as well as their problem-solving skills are advanced and strengthened. Since organised thinking and theoretically informed approaches to complex problems  are necessary for both areas, the MA programme prepares students for a career in the academia as well as the job market beyond the university.
