Campus Tour 2026: Prospective Students Discover MIPSY at the Duisburg Campus

How does a degree program combine computer science and psychology? What topics shape the program, and what is everyday life like at the university? High school students found answers to these questions during the campus tour on June 16, 2026, at the Duisburg campus.

To kick things off, Assistant Professor Dr. German Neubaum introduced the Human-Centered Computer Science and Psychology (MIPSY) program. He provided an overview of the interdisciplinary curriculum as well as potential career prospects.

Afterward, the participants explored the Duisburg campus together with current students and gained insights into student life and the university’s central facilities.

A highlight of the program was the lab tour “Between Human and Machine: A Look Inside the Robotics Lab” led by Dr. Aike Horstmann. There, the students learned about current research projects and discovered how human-robot interaction is studied scientifically. They were also able to interact with the robots themselves and try out various application scenarios of modern robotics.

Prof. Dr. Maic Masuch’s Entertainment Computing Group also opened its doors. Student projects in game development and virtual reality applications were presented, and the participants were able to test them for themselves.

The event concluded with a sample lecture by Assistant Professor Dr. German Neubaum on the topic “Behind the Scenes of TikTok, Instagram & Co.: The Psychology of Social Media Use.” This gave the students an authentic glimpse into how university courses are structured and what topics are addressed in research and teaching.

The campus tour thus offered the opportunity to learn firsthand about the MIPSY degree program, current research topics, and campus life, as well as to engage in conversation with faculty and students.
