Workshop Embedded Machine Learning 2026

Workshop Embedded Machine Learning 2026

The 6th edition of the “Embedded Machine Learning” workshop took place this year, bringing together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry. The event was organized by the Chair of Intelligent Embedded Systems (IES) at the University of Duisburg-Essen in collaboration with the Hardware and Artificial Intelligence (HAWAII) Lab of the University of Heidelberg, the TU Graz, and the Materials Center Leoben GmbH.

For the first time, the workshop was not hosted at the University of Heidelberg but at the University of Duisburg-Essen. The venue was the Fraunhofer inHaus Center of the Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems IMS in Duisburg. Local organization was supported by the Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence Duisburg (ZaKI.D).

The workshop focused on current research and developments in embedded machine learning—AI methods implemented on embedded hardware such as microcontrollers or other resource-constrained systems. The goal was to discuss the latest scientific findings and foster exchange between researchers and industry partners.

The workshop was opened by Prof. Dr. Gregor Schiele, head of the Chair of Intelligent Embedded Systems at the University of Duisburg-Essen. At the beginning of the event, participants also received insights into ongoing research activities during a guided “IES Lab Tour,” led by Leo Buron, research associate and PhD candidate in embedded systems.

The workshop once again provided an open forum for scientific exchange, discussion, and new impulses in the field of embedded machine learning.
