And the Winner Is: No Surprise – Axel Klein on the Election Victory of Japan’s Dominant LDP
In December 2014, Japan’s Prime Minister Abe Shinzo grabbed a golden oppportunity to dissolve the Lower House and win big at the following general election.
With the opposition in disarray and half of the voters too disillusioned to cast their ballot, the governing coalition of Liberal Democrats and Komeito had smooth sailing and secured a two-thirds majority. Together with political scientists Ellis Kraus (UC San Diego) and Steven Reed (Chuo University, Tokyo), Axel Klein commented on the developments for Bloomberg’s David Tweed.
