Dong Wang new Guest Professor
Dong Wang is a new guest professor at the DFG Research Training Group 1613 Risk and East Asia. She is Professor of Contemporary Chinese History and Director of the Centre for East Asian Studies at the University of Turku, Finland.
From 2002 to 2009 she worked as Professor of Chinese History and Executive Director of the East-West Institute of International Studies at Gordon College (USA). She is a Research Associate of the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University and a member of the Board of Directors of the Historical Society for Twentieth Century China based in the U.S.
Although her research interests cover a wide range, Professor Wang’s specialist area is the interaction between China and the outside world – as exhibited in the fields of international organizations, nationalism, treaties, international law, charities, the environment, urban development, disaster management, state and society, heritage, religion, art, higher education, the economy, and U.S.–China relations. Furthermore, she is part of several editorial boards and she has three ongoing book projects.
During her two months stay in Duisburg (October–November 2011), she will give a lecture in the course of the Research Forum. On the 15th of November she will give a talk entitled "China’s Relations with the U.S. under the Hu-Wen and Bush-Obama Administrations (2001–2012)".
