Margarita Estévez-Abe new Guest Professor of the GK 1613
Prof. Margarita Estévez-Abe is visiting professor of the Research Training Group Risk and East Asia (DFG Graduiertenkolleg 1613) from June to August 2010.
She teaches political science at Maxwell School of Citizenship & Public Affairs, Syracuse University (NY). She works in the sub-field of political science called comparative political economy of advanced industrial countries. She is interested in how political and economic institutions are constructed differently across countries and in their varying effects on politics and ordinary people's lives.
Her work so far has dealt with two different topics – Japanese political economy, and comparative political economy of gender –, but always using a similar approach. A much praised book amongst her publications is on “Welfare and Capitalism in Postwar Japan …" (Cambridge University Press 2008).
