Bachelor Program
A Bachelor degree is the first stage of qualifying as a professional engineer. As well as preparing for a professional life, the combination of subjects covers the basic scientific principles of engineering, thereby preparing you either for a Master's degree and doctorate, or for a career with a strong academic or technical emphasis.
In the first year of study, the students will receive a broad grounding in the principles of engineering and the natural sciences. This will include sessions on mechanical engineering, material science, electrical engineering, computer science and the natural sciences. These sessions are designed to impart knowledge and practical techniques in the areas of engineering and natural sciences, and to teach the thought processes that lie behind them. Details of individual lectures can be found in the module handbook. After completion of the first year, which is largely taught to all students across the course, students are divided into separate disciplines and tailored content is taught to the different groups.
Most of the Bachelor degree courses in the ISE program follow the same basic structure as given in the figure below. The following Bachelor degree courses are offered:
3rd Year | Bachelor Thesis (3 Months) + Colloquium | ||||
Core Subjects |

Industrial Internship |
Non Technical Subjects |

2nd Year | |||||
1st Year | Common first year for all Bachelor Degree Courses in the ISE Program All lectures during the 1st year are held in English Lectures are given in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry as well as fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. |
As a result of the common 1st year, the students have the chance to discover possible options and determine their preferences. The students can decide on their orientation after the second semester of their studies.
Within the project the students will work with scientific methods in a group on a complex topic. At the end of the project the students will write a documentation and present their results.
The electives should give the students the possibility of choosing and deepening their own profile of the degree.
During their bachelor studies the students have to make an industrial internship in a company outside the university. The industrial internship has to be finished before registering for the bachelor thesis. The industrial internship will supplement the degree in a way that the students will add to their theoretical knowledge some practical experiences. This will help to understand the lectures and to working on the exercises. The duration of the industrial internship is 12 weeks.
The aim of the non-technical course offer is to deepen the general education of the students and if necessary to increase the linguistic competence as well as to strengthen the ability of working in teams or giving a presentation.
The bachelor thesis is an examination paper that concludes the scientific education in every bachelor degree course within the academic program ISE. It is used to show that a student is capable of processing a problem from the corresponding field of engineering sciences autonomously and with scientific methods and presenting it comprehensibly, within a given period. The duration of the bachelor thesis is 3 month.
After completion of the bachelor degree, the students can choose between a disciplinary continuation with a master as a specialization of their former field of studies or changing to a master degree program in a different engineering subject aiming at a double qualification.
