Student Break Express
Students and sometimes also teachers know the feeling that a 1 ½ hour course seems twice as long to them because listening becomes more and more difficult as it progresses and concentration decreases. Sitting for long periods of time is often painful for the back, buttocks and neck.
The “Student-Breakexpress” project from the university sports program at the University of Duisburg-Essen aims to help students recharge their batteries during such courses.
This is implemented through a five-minute short exercise program, which is also intended to promote the health of the students. Since such an offer has already been carried out at other universities, there are numerous studies that show that active breaks promote concentration and improve well-being. Learning is much easier through movement, as concentration is "revitalized". Accordingly, the student break express is a method for student health promotion.
With the Student-Breakexpress we bring movement into teaching.
The Student-Breakexpress is suitable for many courses at the University of Duisburg-Essen and helps both the student and the teacher to take a short breath.
How does this all work?
Qualified trainers come to the respective course at the time selected by the teacher and carry out a short 5-minute exercise program with the students (and the teacher, too, if you like). This program consists of various exercises for stretching, strengthening, stabilization and relaxation. Sportswear is not required. The project also encourages students to exercise more in their everyday lives, as they themselves notice the positive effect of such an active break.
