Conduct in the event of an accident

In case something happens

We would like to point out the following procedure for handling accidents at University Sports courses at the University of Duisburg-Essen:

Students of the University of Duisburg-Essen are insured against accidents in University Sports in accordance with the statutory provisions of the Unfallkasse NRW (UK). In the event of damage, please contact the course management or the University Sports offices immediately (Essen +49 (0)201 183-7356 or Duisburg +49 (0)203 379-2256).

Students from other universities who take part in University Sports courses at the University of Duisburg-Essen or USC (University Sports Club) are not insured through the Unfallkasse NRW.

In principle, there is no insurance cover from the Unfallkasse NRW for sports travel offers and in the USC (University Sports Club). We recommend using private accident insurance here.

For employees of the University of Duisburg-Essen, accident insurance cover is only available from the Unfallkasse NRW under certain conditions. For example the criteria for "company sport" must be met. Information can be obtained from the Office for Occupational Safety & Environmental Protection (0201 183-3628).

Professors and civil servants are generally insured through the employer and in the event of damage / accident, please contact the Personnel & Organization Department of the University of Duisburg-Essen (Duisburg +49 (0)203 379-2136 or Essen +49 (0)201 183-2142) of the University Sports offices.

In the event that statutory accident insurance does not apply, accidents and the resulting treatment and health costs are always covered by statutory health insurance.

In the event of damage, a hospital or a transit doctor (D-doctor) must be consulted. D-doctors / hospitals in the vicinity of your own place of residence can be visited. You can find them here. An accident report (this is available here under "Unfallanzeige"), the confirmation of registration for the sports course and, for students, the certificate of immatriculation must be submitted to the Office for Occupational Safety & Environmental Protection (Phone +49 (0)201 183-3628) within three days after the incident / accident.

The University of Duisburg-Essen accepts no liability for personal items that are lost during the sport course. We recommend that you do not leave valuables, keys and clothing in the changing rooms.

The respective University Sports office (Duisburg: +49 (0)203 379-2256, Essen: +49 (0)201 183-7346) has to be informed about the accident in any case.
