Press announcement:
In a very short time, the University Sports of the Uni DuE set up the organization of the DHM Volleyball preliminary round in Moers' Bundesliga hall
The University Sports of the University of Duisburg-Essen will host the preliminary round of NRW, the German University Championships, in men's volleyball on Wednesday, May 18th, 2016, from 4.30 p.m. to approx. 8.30 p.m. Lot.
Thanks to the great support of Moerser SC, the tournament can be held in the home of the ex-Bundesliga club in the Enni Sportpark Rheinkamp (Am Sportzentrum 5 in 47441 Moers). There are three games, each with three winning sets, in the multifunctional volleyball hall in the Enni Sportpark, which is suitable for the Bundesliga.
The field of participants in the DHM preliminary round consists of teams from the universities of Bielefeld, Cologne and the University Sports team from the University of Duisburg-Essen. The first place in the preliminary round NRW qualifies for the intermediate round West, in which two of three teams go to the final of the German University Championships on June 17th to June, 19th, 2016 are allowed to drive to Paderborn. Even if details about the participating players of the opponents were kept secret in advance, it can be assumed that everyone will bring a top-class team and that volleyball will be offered at a very high level tomorrow in the Enni Sportpark.
The University Sport of the University of Duisburg-Essen also provides a high-performance team this year, which has a good chance of winning the preliminary round and thus perhaps even winning the first German Championship title in volleyball in the Ruhr metropolises in Duisburg and Essen. Volleyball experts will be able to discover one or the other German top-class in the team of hosts as well as among the strong guests from Bielefeld and Cologne.
For a long time it did not look like that the preliminary round NRW could even take place in the Ruhr area. The university sports of the University of DuE no longer expected to be selected as the host and had to release reserved times in the Enni Sportpark in advance until the announcement came that the preliminary round should take place in the western Ruhr area. Thanks to the great commitment of coach Sven Simon and the support of the city, the local ex-Bundesliga club Moerser SC and other Moerser clubs, this great event was able to be set up at short notice.
Jürgen Schmagold, the head of University Sports at the University of Duisburg-Essen, is visibly pleased about the organization of a preliminary round of the German University Championships in the immediate vicinity of the Duisburg location of the large Ruhr area university “We wanted to bring more events to Duisburg and Essen. After the great starting shot in Essen with the preliminary round of the handball DHM, it was obvious that we wanted to get something going at the next event near the University of Duisburg. That's why it's all the better that, despite the short preparation time and many small problems, we were able to implement everything so quickly! I'm looking forward to a great event and that our team will get everything out of it and secure the ticket for the intermediate round west with a tournament victory! "
Finally, despite the short notice, we would like to motivate everyone to come to the large volleyball hall of the Enni Sportpark Rheinkamp today to support our team and to spend a great sports afternoon and evening together.
The hall will be open from 4 p.m. and the first game will probably start at 4.30 p.m. with the encounter between the University of Duisburg-Essen and the university competition community from Cologne. The winner of this game can take a break and Bielefeld University will be involved in the last two games until the winner and qualifier for the intermediate round is determined at around 8.30 p.m.
Entry is free and everyone is welcome!

Qualified for the intermediate round: University of Duisburg-Essen
And so it continues...
The volleyball players of the University Sports Uni DuE confidently wins the DHM preliminary round NRW and thus reaches the intermediate round
The volleyball players of the University Sports of the University of Duisburg-Essen (Uni DuE) won the preliminary round of the German University Championships (DHM) with 3-0 victories and thus bought their ticket for the intermediate round "West". So this year's final of the DHM volleyball is only one step away and the big goal of winning the German University Championship is coming more and more into view.
Uni DuE at the same time host of the preliminary round NRW
The University Sport of the Uni DuE was not only active with its team on the volleyball field but also organized and carried out the DHM preliminary round as an organizer. Thanks to the great support of the traditional volleyball club and ex-Bundesliga club Moerser SC, the games could be played on the Bundesliga-compatible playing field of the multifunctional hall of the modern Enni Sportpark Rheinkamp (Moers), in the vicinity of the Duisburg Uni DuE campus. The field of participants consisted of the DHM defending champion Cologne, Bielefeld University and the host from the Ruhr area.
Host's squad
Sven Simon, the trainer and team manager of the new volleyball team for University Sports at the University of Duisburg-Essen, was able to put together a top-class team in advance thanks to the extensive catchment area of the University of DuE. From six cities and clubs, players from the top league to the Bundesliga were represented in the roster of the Ruhr Area University. For example, Jan Holthausen and Thomas Wojtczak of the Essen second division club VV Humann as well as the ex-Moerser giant and attack specialist Oskar Klinger, who played for Düren and Lüneburg in the 1st Bundesliga last season, were part of the host's squad.
Cadre of guests
Bielefeld University traveled to the western Ruhr area with a mix of young association, upper and regional league players. The defending champion from Cologne, on the other hand, offered a well-rehearsed and homogeneous team with players from the 2nd Bundesliga, 3rd division and regional league, with the clear goal of building on the performance from 2015.
Tournament start directly with top game
The draw showed that the two favorites from the universities of Cologne and Duisburg-Essen meet directly in the first game and thus a preliminary decision on the tournament winner could be made at the beginning of the DHM preliminary round. Therefore, in the late afternoon, numerous spectators found their way into the play hall of the Enni Sportpark to experience the high-class volleyball game live.
The team from the University of Duisburg-Essen started the game mixedly and did not get into the game optimally. The defending champion from the Rhine immediately took advantage of every small mistake the hosts made and in the end won the hard-fought first set with 25:22. Until then, it looked like a close match at eye level and the host's great DHM title dream was directly put to the test. After changing sides to the second sentence, trainer Simon apparently found the right words in his speech and the audience got a first impression of what the strong squad of the university sports team at Uni DuE is capable of. The result was a clear 25:15 win in the second set and an ultimately safe 3: 1 win against the reigning German University Champions from Cologne.
In the following game, Cologne was able to prove its entire playing class again with a safe 3-0 win against Bielefeld, but the hosts remained focused and beat the young Perspektiven team from East Westphalia without losing a set, which the team the Uni DuE as the winner of the preliminary round deserved to move into the "West" intermediate round.
Head of University Sports is happy about qualification between rounds
Jürgen Schmagold, Head of University Sports at Uni DuE is enthusiastic “The ease with which our new volleyball team won this preliminary round and also gave defending champion Cologne no chance of a win is of course more than gratifying. Now we hope that the boys will be just as focused in the second round in order to reach the DHM final in Paderborn and to get closer to the dream goal of German University Champions in 2016! At the same time, we are currently trying to organize the intermediate round as well as the preliminary round ourselves and are already in direct contact with the German University Sports Association and those responsible for potential sports facilities in order to bring the DHM intermediate round, which is due in three weeks, to the Ruhr area as well as possible! ".
Status quo for the intermediate round west
The opponents of the Uni DuE team in the intermediate round "West" are the Hessian university teams from Giessen and Frankfurt am Main. The intermediate round must have been played by Wednesday, June 8th, 2016 and the first two winners can then look forward to a real volleyball spectacle at the DHM final in Paderborn. If Essen should soon receive the bid to host the intermediate round west on the part of the adh (general German university association), the last possible intermediate round date would be June 8th, 2016, which is also the desired date for those responsible for university sports at the University of DuE.
We therefore ask all those interested in volleyball and sports as well as students and employees of the Uni DuE to mark June 8th, 2016 in their calendars so that we can whip our team loudly to victory!
We will inform you about the exact date and location as soon as both are clear and confirmed.
The date for the DHM intermediate round of volleyball (men) has been set
We would all be very happy to welcome you live at the games on Tuesday, June 7th, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the dual sports hall at Gladbecker Str. 180/182 in Essen, so that we can play exciting volleyball games with you to enjoy a high level! The chances are good that our team will qualify as the third team of the Uni DuE for a DHM final in the current year 2016 on this day.
Before that, our handball team (men) and our badminton team (mixed) had already qualified for their respective finals this year.
After we had already organized the handball preliminary round at Margarethenhöhe and the volleyball preliminary round in Moers, we will now hold the 3rd DHM competition this year. Due to the fact that the badminton team final will be held in the same week on Sunday, June 12th, 2016 (more information will follow), which we are allowed to hold at the same location, the total number of DHM highlights in 2016 is already 4 organized DHM -Events! In addition, we are currently working flat out to bring the DHM final in handball to the Ruhr area at the beginning of July.
Our volleyball players made it to the final successfully!
After hosting and winning the preliminary round at our university, the intermediate round in the new University Sports hall in Essen was also won on June 7th, 2016. Congratulations, guys!
We can look back on a top-class intermediate round and in terms of the quality of the teams, all three teams would have been more than an asset to the final round from a sporting point of view!
In the end, only two teams from the West region were able to receive a ticket and these went to the competition community from Gießen and our team from the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Especially the duel between Giessen and Frankfurt in the second game of the intermediate round could hardly have been more exciting, as Frankfurt, after the two narrowly lost first sets, won the next two just as tightly and only after almost 2 ½ hours in the tie -Break had to be beaten at 13:15.
We congratulate the WG Gießen and our team from Duisburg-Essen on reaching the finals and first of all we wish Frankfurt all the best! In any case, we are already looking forward to the next exciting clashes, whether in the final or maybe again in the second round of next year.
Our team will now play for the title "German University Champion 2016" on the weekend after next (June 17-19, 2016) in Paderborn! We wish our volleyball players all the best for this and keep our fingers crossed!
