From equal opportunities and gender equality to excellent water research and sustainable procurement - with the support of university members from all status groups, the document shows the diversity of the UDE. The report covers the period 2014 to early 2020 and maps the activities presented to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
Commendations
The diverse commitment at the UDE should not go unrecognized. For this reason, napro has been awarding commendations at the UDE summer party since 2016 and in doing so, on behalf of the university, would like to thank students and employees who are helping to shape the university through their commitment to sustainable development.
BNE Certificate
Der Profilschwerpunkt ‚Urbane Systeme‘ und das Institut für Optionale Studien (IOS) tragen gemeinsam das Zertifikat ‚Bildung für Nachhaltige Entwicklung (BNE)‘. Der napro unterstützt die Organisation und stellt unter anderem das Grundlagenseminar "Einführung in Nachhaltige Entwicklung." Das Zertifikat bietet Studierenden – unabhängig von ihrem Studiengang – einen Zugang zur BNE und die Möglichkeit, erworbene Kompetenzen transparent nachzuweisen. Gefördert wird das Projekt durch das Prorektorat für Studium und Lehre.

Milestones
The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) was established in 2003 through the fusion of the University of Essen and the Gerhard-Mercator-University. Since its foundation the UDE aims at a sustainable development, which is driven forward by its employees as well as by its students.
