Research Overview

Our research focuses on personalized radiotherapy, aiming to improve tumor control while minimizing treatment-related toxicity. We investigate biological determinants of radiation response and resistance, including tumor hypoxia, cancer stem cells, and molecular biomarkers, using preclinical models and clinical patient cohorts.
A major focus is the identification and validation of prognostic and predictive biomarkers to guide individualized treatment strategies, e.g. in head and neck cancer. We also investigate biological mechanisms underlying the response to combined radiotherapy and systemic treatments, as well as radiation-induced normal tissue toxicity.
Our overarching goal is to translate biological insights into biomarker-driven clinical trials and ultimately improve treatment outcomes through biologically informed, personalized radiation oncology.
