German University Championships Handball 2016

Handball Meisterschaft

Press announcement:
Preliminary round of the German University Championships on Margarethenhöhe

The University Sport of the University of Duisburg-Essen will host the preliminary round of the NRW region, the German University Championships for men in handball, on Wednesday, April 27th, 2016, from 3 p.m. to approx. 10.30 p.m. and will of course also be athletic with its own top team with one of the party. Thanks to the great support of TUSEM Essen, the tournament can be held in the home of the Essen professional, traditional and youth handball club on Margarethenhöhe. The Margarethenhöhe sports hall is perfectly equipped for handball games at the highest level, including over 600 grandstand seats for numerous spectators. We are well equipped for this on and off the field thanks to the provision of all necessary utensils by TUSEM Essen.

The field of participants in the DHM preliminary round consists of teams from the universities of Bielefeld, Bochum, Cologne, Münster and the university sports team from the University of Duisburg-Essen. The first place in the preliminary round in North Rhine-Westphalia qualifies directly for the final of the German University Championships. Even if details about the participating players of the opponents were kept secret in advance, it can be assumed that everyone will bring a top-class team with them and that handball will be offered at a very high level tomorrow on the Margarethenhöhe.

The University Sport of the University of Duisburg-Essen also provides a young, hungry and high-performance team this year, which has a good chance of winning the preliminary round and thus perhaps even bringing the first German championship title in handball to the Ruhr metropolises in Duisburg and Essen. The individual players play in normal league operations from the association league to the 2nd Bundesliga handball. The two TUSEM players Jonas Ellwanger and Pasqual Tovornik should be known to many in Essen and the surrounding area and play a leading role in the university sports team of the University of Duisburg-Essen and each represent a key function in the game. Overall, however, the team will of course only be able to win the victory if they join forces as a team and tirelessly dedicate themselves, especially since all the players bring quality with them. An additional plus is that the players sometimes play in the same club and they all know and understand each other well. A team is only as good at this level as the leadership and tactics of the one who sets the tone and has the say from the sidelines. Therefore, with Daniel Haase, who has made a name for himself in handball as co-trainer of the TUSEM professional team and as head trainer of the A1 youth Bundesliga team of TUSEM, a young and up-and-coming talent who still has a lot of experience, to win. In addition, the handball game is known for the fact that it is anything but a harmless and contactless sport, which is why Lennard Götte, who otherwise also provides physiotherapy for the A1 team at TUSEM, first makes the team complete and ensures that the players can also withstand the rigors of their four games of 2 x1 5 minutes to be completed without any problems.

Jürgen Schmagold, the head of University Sports at the University of Duisburg-Essen, is visibly pleased about the organization of the preliminary round of the German University Championships in Essen . The preliminary round of the handball DHM is the starting shot and dress rehearsal at the same time in 2016. Therefore, I am all the more pleased that we were able to organize a sports event at the highest level like this despite a short lead time! As a man of the sport, I am of course immensely pleased that we can put together such a strong squad including local Bundesliga players and, in Daniel Haase, acquire the perfect man to be successful together with the team! I'm looking forward to tomorrow and hope that all sports-loving students and university employees, as well as students and workers in our region and many more, will find their way to Margarethenhöhe to cheer our team on from the stands! Last but not least, I would like to thank TUSEM Essen as a whole, and especially Holger Keitemeier and Herbert Stauber, for supporting us so well at this event from the start, because otherwise it would have been very difficult for us, all at short notice to put on its feet in this form! "

Finally, we would like to motivate everyone to come to the Margarethenhöhe sports hall tomorrow to support our team and to spend a great afternoon and evening of sports together.

The hall is open from 3 p.m. and the first game starts at 3:30 p.m.

Entry is free and everyone is welcome!

The final round of the German University Championships is a guest on the Margarethenhöhe - UDE team is one of the favorites for the championship title

The University Sports (HSP) of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) is organizing this weekend from July 9th. (11 a.m. - 8 p.m.) & 10.07. (10 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.) the final round of the German University Championships (DHM) for men in handball to play off the German University Champions 2016 and the associated participation in the European University Championships in summer 2017.

Thanks to the great support of Essen's sports and bathing companies and TUSEM Essen, the final tournament can be held under the best handball conditions in the home of the traditional Essen club, the Margarethenhöhe sports hall.

Since no organizer was available at first, the HSP of the UDE agreed to take over the organization at short notice. Since less than a tenth of the average lead time for DHM finals was available, the preparations unfortunately turned out to be much tighter than intended. Nonetheless, the UDE's HSP was able to use the motto “Doesn't work? There is no such thing! ”, Set up the finals at the Essen location in good time and look forward to a great and top-class sporting event.

The field of participants in the DHM final round consists of teams from the universities in Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Konstanz, Magdeburg, Munich and the UDE HSP team. In two groups of three teams and a total of three group games each until Saturday afternoon, the four semi-final participants will be played, which will be played on the evening of the same day. The placement games for places 5 and 3 will take place on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., where the audience can get in the mood for the final and highlight of the DHM finals at 12.30 p.m.

Handball connoisseurs from the Ruhr area will be well known to many of the players on the UDE team from a wide variety of clubs and leagues in the area. For example, the three TUSEM players Pascqual Tovornik, Jonas Ellwanger and Lukas Ellwanger are part of the UDE team, which, like coach Daniel Haase, should also be known to many sports enthusiasts who are not directly related to handball in Essen and the surrounding area. So that we start the UDE team with almost the same line-up as in the DHM preliminary round, in which they not only secure participation in the finals, but also prematurely thrown one of the strongest competitors out of the competition with the reigning DHM master Cologne.

All interested spectators are cordially invited to watch the top-class sports spectacle live from the grandstand of the Margarethenhöhe sports hall and to loudly support the UDE HSP team at their games! In addition, the HSP of the UDE decided not to take admission to the event in order to make the event accessible to everyone and a good atmosphere on site is the best payment that the HSP of the UDE can imagine as an organizer!

The hall is open from 10 a.m. on Saturday & from 9 a.m. on Sunday and takes place on both days in the Margarethenhöhe sports hall in Lührmannwald 1A in 45149 Essen.

Uni Duisburg-Essen German Handball University Champion 2016

Dhm Handball Ude 2016

Competition:
The University Sports (HSP) of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) judged this weekend from July 9th & 10th at short notice the final round of the German University Championships (DHM) for men in handball in the TUSEM home sports hall Margarethenhöhe.

Game mode:
After the team from Munich University of Applied Sciences did not appear at the DHM finals, the number of participants was reduced to a total of five teams. Thereupon the discipline chief Elmar Ehrich decided that instead of two groups and subsequent finals, the final round would be held in the “everyone against everyone” mode. A total of eleven games with a shortened playing time of 2 x 20 minutes were on the schedule.

Participant field:
The teams from the universities in Frankfurt, Karlsruhe, Konstanz, Magdeburg and Duisburg-Essen competed against each other. The level of play was on average at the level of the 3rd division. The hosts included, for example, the 2nd division players Pasqual Tovornik, Jonas Ellwanger and Lukas Ellwanger from the TUSEM professional squad as well as ex-TUSEMER Lasse Seidel, who will play for HSG Nordhorn in the 2016-2017 season, to their squad. As head coach of the UDE team, TUSEMer Daniel Haase was mainly responsible for the right mental and tactical attitude of the young team from the Ruhr area.

Final round course:
In the first game it went straight into a hard-fought game between Konstanz and the hosts UDE, in which the latter was able to prevail with just one goal in the end. In the further course of the tournament it turned out that Konstanz, Frankfurt and the UDE team will probably play out the championship title among themselves. Magdeburg had to pay tribute to its comparatively weaker squad, despite consistently strong performances on the field, and finished in 5th place without a win. Karlsruhe had to admit defeat, except against Magdeburg, and gambled away any title chances. Before the last and decisive game of Frankfurt against the UDE team, the following three-man constellation arose at the top. The hitherto undefeated hosts had it in their own hands and won the championship with a win or a tie. With a win for Frankfurt, Konstanz would have been ahead of the game due to the best goal difference and theoretically Frankfurt could still have secured the title with a win with a twelve goal difference, but this was practically hardly possible with a total of 40 minutes of playing time. In the end, the spectators in the Margarethenhöhe sports hall were offered an absolute handball fight between the Hessians and the Ruhr area team, who gave nothing to each other. Every goal had to be worked hard and the players on both sides had to take a lot from the opposing defense to get a throw at all.

German Handball University Champion 2016:
In the end, Duisburg-Essen was able to just beat the team from the Main metropolis with 23:22 and secure the German University Championship title in men's handball when you took part in the competition for the first time!

After the award ceremony by ADH board member and head of university sports at Goethe University Dr. Kathrin Werkmann were delighted with this brilliant success, coach Daniel Haase, the team, the spectators and the head of university sports at the UDE Jürgen Schmagold and then celebrated the title win together on the Margarethenhöhe!

With the Championship title, the UDE team also secured the German starting place for the European University Championship 2017, which took place in handball from July 03rd to July 9th, 2017 in Málaga, Spain.

Conclusion:
It can be looked back on a high-class and, despite the more than high commitment of all players on the field, absolutely fair final round event. Those responsible for the championship team have already indicated that they will exercise their first right to host the DHM handball final round in 2017. After the extremely short-term takeover of the organization and the pure organization of the men's competition this year, the whole event in summer 2017, just because of the additional women's final, will be a lot bigger, but thanks to the appropriate lead time also significantly more professional and pompous. Therefore, all handball fans and sports enthusiasts in the Duisburg-Essen area can already look forward to this great event in the coming year!
