The Faculty of Economics at the University of Duisburg-Essen provides a research-oriented and interdisciplinary environment with a strong focus on socially relevant research. CINCH is an internationally connected center of excellence in empirical health economics research at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Founded in 2012, it conducts policy-relevant research at the highest academic standards and provides excellent training for early-career researchers.

Your main tasks
- Conduct research activities within a DFG (German Research Foundation)-funded project on the interaction of health, demographic, and economic factors in the transition to modern economic growth, with a focus on disease environments, physiological development, fertility, education, and technology.
- Develop and analyze theoretical models (in particular overlapping-generations and dynamic equilibrium models) linking health conditions, agricultural productivity, fertility decisions, and human capital investment.
- Compile, manage, and analyze large historical datasets (e.g., regional panel data for Sweden on fertility, mortality, height, disease exposure, education, and economic conditions) and carry out empirical analyses.
- Publish research results in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.
- Support teaching and administrative tasks at the Chair of Health Economics.
- Within the scope of the position, the opportunity to pursue doctoral studies will be provided.
Your profile
- Above-average completed university degree in Economics (Master’s) with a standard period of study of at least eight semesters.
- Advanced knowledge of statistics and econometrics.
- Advanced knowledge of quantitative research methods and advanced proficiency in statistical software packages (Stata, R, or Python).
- Experience in the analysis of large-scale datasets is desirable.
- Sound theoretical knowledge of relevant economic and related theories and models in the areas of health economics, fertility, and human capital formation (e.g., Unified Growth Theory and the concept of technophysio evolution) is desirable.
- Good to very good command of English.
- Desirable: Experience in the organization and delivery of university-level teaching.
