EG 13 TV-L

The department of Eukaryotic Microbiology is currently being established at the Faculty of Biology and part of the university’s main area of water research. There is close cooperation with the Centre for Water and Environmental Research and the Water Graduate School. The department focuses on the ecology, diversity, systematics, and evolution of parasitic, eukaryotic microorganisms (protists), such as the Apicomplexa.

Start of employment

Duration of employment

36 months

Working time

25 Std. 53 Min. (65 %)

Your main tasks

You will be working on a project supported by the Frenzenstiftung entitled 'Parasitic protists in Arctic benthos organisms – Expansion of LTER HAUSGARTEN diversity.' Various samples, including sediment with organisms collected with box corer and multicorer, water supernatant from the multicorer, and directly isolated benthos and plankton organisms were obtained during the Polarstern Expedition PS136 in 2023. You are tasked with conducting both microscopic and molecular biological analyses of these samples. This presents a unique opportunity to investigate parasitic protists in benthic organisms or dormant stages in the sediment, aiming to describe the diversity of these parasites in the Arctic. The results will also provide insights into potential impacts on benthic organisms. Another expedition is planned.

You will also be involved in teaching and administrative tasks.

Within the scope of the activity, opportunities for further scientific qualifications are offered.
