Research Overview

Andrija Sente investigates how the precise balance between excitation and inhibition in the neuronal microcircuitry is set and maintained at a molecular level. His group employs mechanistic and structural studies to characterise the machinery involved in neurotransmission. More generally, Andrija seeks to understand the cellular pathways that govern the precise wiring of the nervous system during development, how genetic variation influences these processes, and how they become dysfunctional in neurodevelopmental disorders, such as schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorder.
