At the University-Duisburg-Essen, CENIDE is closely linked to the Faculties of Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, and Medicine in particular.

In addition, there is a close cooperation with the UDE affiliated institutes Hydrogen and fuel cell center ZBT GmbH and Institut für Umwelt & Energie, Technik & Analytik e.V. (IUTA) in Duisburg as well as the German Textile Research Center North-West (DTNW) in Krefeld.

Through the Universitätsallianz Ruhr (UA Ruhr), the UDE and CENIDE are strongly connected with the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) and the Technical University Dortmund. CENIDE is strongly involved, especially in the profile focus Materials Chain, as well as in the newly founded Research Center Future Energy Materials and Systems (RC FEMS). Through this alliance, a close partnership between CENIDE and the RUB Materials Research Department (MRD), including ICAMS and ZGH, results.

There is also a close cooperation with the Max-Planck Institutes for Kohleforschung and Chemical Energy Conversion in Mülheim, and for Eisenforschung in Düsseldorf, the Forschungszentrum Jülich as well as with the Frauenhofer Institutes for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems (IMS) in Duisburg and for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology (UMSICHT) in Oberhausen.

CENIDE collaborates with other national and international research institutions as well as industrial partners in numerous EU projects, DFG-funded research training groups, collaborative research centers, priority programs and research groups, BMBF, BMWI, NRW and foundation projects.
