The Department of Sociology at the UDE is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences and, with 11 professorships and more than 50 academic staff, among the largest sociological teaching and research institutions in the German-speaking world. The team of Prof Weiß is preparing a research project on “Global Social Structure” (www.udue.de/globlife). We invite scholars who will develop a visible research profile in the context of this research project.

Das Institut für Soziologie der UDE ist Teil der Fakultät für Gesellschaftswissenschaften und zählt mit 11 Professuren und mehr als 50 wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter:innen zu den größten soziologischen Lehr- und Forschungseinrichtungen im deutschsprachigen Raum. Das Team der Arbeitsgruppe von Frau Prof. Dr. Anja Weiß bereitet ein Forschungsprojekt zur „Globalen Sozialstrukturanalyse“ (www.udue.de/globlife) vor. Wir suchen eine Persönlichkeit, die im Kontext dieses Forschungsprojektes ein sichtbares eigenes Forschungsprofil entwickelt.

Your main tasks

• You will conduct independent and collaborative research with a focus on the use of LLMs for reconstructive qualitative social research and globally comparative life course research. In doing so, you will achieve a highly visible position in an innovative research field and contribute to the development of a global life course data set (www.udue.de/globlife).
• You will apply for third-party funding yourself and as part of a team.
• You will (co-)author scientific publications.
• You will conduct courses (2 seminars/term), take examinations and assist in the supervision of seminar papers and theses.
• You are prepared to take on organizational and administrative tasks and participate in university self-administration.

• Sie führen selbstständige Forschung im Team der Arbeitsgruppe von Frau Prof. Dr. Weiß durch. Der Schwerpunkt Ihrer Post-Doc-Forschung zielt darauf, LLMs für rekonstruktive qualitative Sozialforschung im Bereich der global vergleichenden Lebenslaufforschung zu nutzen. Damit besetzen Sie sichtbar ein innovatives Feld in den soziologischen Forschungsmethoden und tragen zum Aufbau eines Global Life Course Data Set bei (www.udue.de/globlife).
• Sie werben selbst und im Team Drittmittel ein.
• Sie erstellen wissenschaftliche Veröffentlichungen in Allein- und Koautor:innenschaft
• Sie führen selbstständig Lehrveranstaltungen im Umfang von 4 SWS durch, nehmen Prüfungen ab und arbeiten bei der Betreuung von Seminar- und Abschlussarbeiten mit.
• Sie sind bereit, organisatorische und administrative Aufgaben zu übernehmen und engagieren sich in der universitären Selbstverwaltung.

Your profile

• Completed PhD in sociology or project-related fields (if graded: with honors).
• Strong interest in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of sociology and computational social science.
• Demonstrated experience with social scientific research methods, preferably LLMs, documentary method, and mixed-methods. You develop social science research methods creatively and are prepared to familiarize yourself with Bohnsack’s documentary method.
• You proactively plan your next steps on the way to a professorship.
• You have a track record of high-quality publications, preferably international.
• You have teaching skills in higher education and enjoy innovative teaching formats; previous experience in teaching sociology is desirable.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Fluent English; willingness to acquire the German skills necessary for university teaching within two years is a plus.

• Sie haben eine thematisch einschlägige Promotion mit summa cum laude oder magna cum laude abgeschlossen.
• Sie wollen sichtbar zu interdisziplinärer Forschung an der Schnittstelle von Soziologie und Computational Social Sciences beitragen.
• Sie verfügen über fortgeschrittene Kenntnisse in sozialwissenschaftlichen Methoden. Nachgewiesene Erfahrung mit LLM basierter Forschung, der Dokumentarischen Methode und Mixed methods ist von Vorteil. Sie entwickeln sozialwissenschaftliche Forschungsmethoden kreativ weiter und sind bereit, sich in die Dokumentarische Methode nach Bohnsack einzuarbeiten.
• Sie planen weitere Qualifikationsschritte auf dem Weg zu einer Professur.
• Sie können qualitativ hochwertige Publikationen vorweisen, gerne auch international.
• Sie verfügen über hochschuldidaktische Kompetenz und haben Freude an innovativen Lehrformaten. Vorerfahrungen in der Hochschullehre im Fach Soziologie sind erwünscht.
• Sehr gute Organisations- und Kommunikationsfähigkeiten
• Sehr gute Kenntnisse des Englischen. Erwünscht ist die Bereitschaft, binnen zwei Jahren nach Einstellung Deutschkenntnisse auf dem Niveau B2 zu erwerben.
