In the individual fights, Dennis Gutsche won first place in the -100 kg weight class. The 7th place went to Jan Tefett -73kg for the men and Dagmar Götz -63kg and Nina Grabowski -78kg for the women. Volker Schuchardt had to give up after 2 successful fights due to injury. Alexander Heidrich (-81kg) was able to take 3 wins, but in the end had to admit defeat to his stronger opponent. Franziska Heidrich (-57kg), who tried her luck in the consolation round after a win and a defeat in the main round, was just as successful, where she also lost. Unfortunately, Pia Wistuba and Majed Baiazid had bad luck after a lost fight, because their opponents did not become pool winners and thus they were eliminated from the tournament. The two ailing fighters Stefan Urselmann (-90kg) and Julia Rotthoff (-48kg) were both eliminated from the tournament after a fight.

In the team fights, the men's team from the University of Duisburg-Essen held its own with a reduced line-up and fought for 7th place. Due to the injury of Volker Schuchardt, they competed with only 3 fighters in 5 weight classes and still fought excellently. The women's team was also greatly reduced due to injuries (Nina Graboswki) and illness (Julia Rotthoff) and was eliminated after a tournament fight.

3rd place each at the EUG Badminton 2016 for Katharina Altenbeck in the women’s singles and Alexander Roovers in the men’s singles

Saturday (23.07.) Should have a good star for the Uni DUE. So the Mixed Lohau / Stremlau and Altenbeck / Rathke were able to advance to the quarter-finals and knocked out some seeded pairings. Unfortunately there was the end of the game for both mixed, with Lohau / Stremlau just scraping past a medal.

Alexander Roovers prevailed in the men's singles against the internationally experienced Poland Dubowski and defeated Sinan Zorlu, who was first placed in the quarterfinals, so that Roovers was in the semifinals on Sunday.

There were just such top results in the women’s singles. Stremlau fought her way to the quarter-finals, where she had to bow to the eventual winner Chervyakova from Russia. Altenbeck had to play against the second seeded local hero from Zagreb, Samarchants, in the first game. Here Altenbeck played really well and won. In the quarter-finals she also got the upper hand in a three-sentence thriller and fought her way through to the semi-finals.

In the men's doubles, Lohau / Rathke had to admit defeat to the later third from Lisbon. Roovers / Ufermann initially retained the upper hand against the Swiss, before they had to give in to the eventual winners from Poland, Bochat / Pietryja.

In the women's doubles, Stremlau / Altenbeck initially won against the three seeded Turkish women and played their way up to the quarter-finals with a super performance, which was then lost.

The first semi-final played Roovers against Lale from Turkey. Unfortunately, Roovers couldn't take another win here and had to admit defeat in three tight sets. For Altenbeck too, the semi-finals were over. The disappointment did not last long for both players, because with the semi-finals and the safe bronze medals one could be more than satisfied.
