Master

The Chair of Business Administration and Production Management offers two lectures for Master's students in various degree programs. They are designed for the "Business Administration elective area" (Betriebswirtschaftlicher Wahlbereich) in the Industrial Engineering degree program and can also be selected in the "Interdisciplinary elective area" (Interdisziplinärer Wahlbereich).

The Master's seminar “Production and Operations Management” is exclusively for the Master's degree programs in Industrial Engineering and is considered a "Business Management Seminar" (Betriebswirtschaftliches Seminar).

For the “Production Management” (Produktionsmanagement) study profile in the Master's degree programs in Industrial Engineering  in accordance with the 2024 examination regulations (PO24), the Master's seminar “Production and Operations Management” (POM4) and at least one of the two lectures “Supply Chain Management” (POM1) and “Plant and Energy Management” (POM2) must be taken. Students can also choose from the lectures “Dynamic Automotive Management”, “Multinational Automotive Companies in Times of Change”, “Energy and Real Estate Management”, “Energy Markets and Price Formation”, “Electricity, District Heating, Renewable Energy”, “Concepts and Instruments of Controlling” and “Value-oriented Corporate Management”.

In the Master's degree course in Industrial Engineering in accordance with the 2019 examination regulations (PO19), students can choose the business management specialization Production and Operations Management (in German and worth 15 ECTS).

Supply Chain Management (POM 1) 5 ECTS, 4 SWS Summer
Plant and Energy Management (POM 2) 5 ECTS, 4 SWS Winter
Seminar on Production and Operations Management (POM 4) 5 ECTS, 3 SWS Winter

In the lecture Supply Chain Management (POM 1), methods for planning and optimising value chains and company networks are taught. In this context, the knowledge of Operations Research and sustainable production management is deepened and discussed in the context of current research and business practice.

In the lecture Plant and Energy Management (POM 2), methods for the techno-economic evaluation of industrial plants are dealt with. In addition to methods for cost and investment estimation, particular emphasis is placed on the evaluation of the sustainability of products and production processes by means of life cycle assessment (LCA).

The courses Supply Chain Management (POM 1) and Plant and Energy Management (POM 2) are designed in such a way that they can also be taken by students of the Master's degree programmes Automotive Engineering & Management and Technical Logistics as a business administration elective module. In addition, they are open to students of all engineering Master's degree programmes in their free elective area.

In the Master’s Seminar on Production and Operations Management (POM 4), students work independently on current issues from the areas of "Production and Operations Management", e.g. tour planning models for food transports, sustainability in water supply, location planning for electric charging stations.

Former courses according to examination regulations 2019 (PO19):

In the exercise Methods for Production and Operations Management (POM 3 - PO19), quantitative procedures and methods of Production and Operations Management were presented and applied by the students to concrete industrial case studies by presenting methods conceptually, interpreting them economically and implementing them with the help of learning and standard software.
