Bachelor Industrial Engineering

Courses offered

Bachelor

The Chair of ABWL and Production Management provides one compulsory course in the Bachelor's degree programme in Industrial Engineering and Management.

The lecture Operations Research for Industrial Engineers gives an overview of methods for solving quantitative decision problems in business and industry.

In the lecture Introduction to Business Administration for Industrial Engineers (compulsory according to PO19), students acquire the basic technical terms and methods of business administration (BWL). Furthermore, they are familiarised with the basics of decision theory. The lecture according to PO19 was last read in winter semester 24/25 and will no longer take place after PO24. Exams will be offered until 2028.

Operations Research for Industrial Engineers 4 ECTS, 3 SWS Winter
Introduction to Business Administration for Industrial Engineers (PO19, exam only) 3 ECTS, 2 SWS

Bachelor specialization Production Management (15 ECTS) - PO2019

In the Bachelor's specialisation in Production Management in the Industrial Engineering degree programme, methods for analysing and solving managerial problems in the planning, organisation and optimisation of production processes and the associated supply chains and production networks are taught.

In the lecture Sustainable Production Management, students are introduced to production systems and supply chains in the context of sustainable development. They are able to model production systems and analyse them using qualitative and quantitative methods. Based on case studies from different industries, the contents are deepened and practised hands-on.

The lecture Cost Management (Chair of Controlling, Prof. Wömpener) provides students with knowledge about cost accounting, cost structures, cost behaviour and measures to influence costs.

In the Bachelor's seminar Sustainable Production Management, students work on planning problems relevant to practice (e.g. Industry 4.0 and Smart Production, Optimisation in Production, Modelling and Decision Support in the Energy Sector). Either they implement models from Operations Research using Python or they create a life cycle assessment (LCA) using Brightway. The approach and results are documented in the seminar paper and presented to the other seminar participants as a lecture.

This prepares the students for a Bachelor's thesis in the field of production management.
