A core-periphery perspective on socio-ecological transformation in Europe

My research examines how core and peripheral development models across Europe lead to heterogeneous ecological outcomes. While European development models have been extensively studied with regard to growth, productivity, and employment, much less is known about their ecological foundations. Building on research on European core-periphery relations, comparative political economy, and ecological economics,  I research how differences in productive structures, sectoral specialization, and integration into global value chains influence countries' greenhouse gas emissions and their possible pathways towards decarbonization. 

My first research project is based on a structural decomposition analysis of emissions across a growth/development model aggregation. The second project investigates the ecological consequences of the value-chain integration of the Eastern European periphery with the core. The third project focuses on the geographical distribution of green technological capabilities in the European core and different parts of the periphery. Together, these projects aim to provide a more comprehensive picture of how uneven development and ecological transformation are interrelated in Europe.
