Every month in this series, we offer one or two-day workshops on interdisciplinary skills for doctoral researchers from all UDE departments. In April, May, and June the following topics will be covered: 'Stress-free and goal-oriented through the doctorate: Stress competence for doctoral researchers', 'Mastering Oral Communication', 'Identity and integrity as a researcher', 'Academic Writing' and "Schwierigen Situationen selbstbewusst begegnen". Spread the word - calling international postdocs from all disciplines: This is your chance to spend three months at a UA Ruhr university to prepare a joint third-party funding application. The UA Ruhr Research Academy is offering a monthly scholarship of €1,500 for research stays (three consecutive months) in 2026. Co-financing from other sources is possible. You are eligible for funding if you completed your doctorate no more than three years ago. Prepare your application now and reach out to a potential host. This could be a professor, junior professor, or junior research group leader from Ruhr University Bochum, TU Dortmund University, or the University of Duisburg-Essen. Ask them for a letter of invitation with a brief description of your research project. In addition, you will need a work plan. You can find all information and the call for applications here.

The industry is changing rapidly due to digitalisation, global networking and changing customer expectations. These developments are leading to new job profiles and requirements for employees. At the same time, exciting opportunities are opening up for doctoral students. Our guest works in human resources development and would like to discuss with you which strategies can be helpful in shaping your own career in industry. The UA Ruhr Research Academy is once again awarding Mobility Grants for postdocs from the University Alliance Ruhr. Stays abroad of up to 12 weeks are funded with a maximum of €6,000. Last year, postdocs took advantage of these opportunity already and reported to us on their travels. If you want to gain international experience, build or expand your international networks, or initiate or further develop an independent research project with international partners - the UA Ruhr Mobility Grants offer you all these opportunities. We finance research stays worldwide for postdocs from all disciplines at the UA Ruhr (with an employment contract or scholarship). Whether it's a junior professorship, a position at a university of applied sciences, a private university, or a traditional university professorship - at the Karriereforum Wissenschaft und Forschung 2026, we will shed light on the different types. Experienced professors from the UA Ruhr will provide personal insights. Under the heading “What kind of professor are you?”, you can reflect on your questions in individual exercises and in discussions with other participants: Which path leads to the respective option? What are the special features? What are the requirements? After the introduction, we will not only offer talks on university and junior professorships in the humanities and social sciences or in natural sciences and engineering, but also on HAW professorships and those at private universities. The decision on which session to attend is up to you. The event is aimed at advanced doctoral researchers and postdocs at the UA Ruhr. Take advantage of this opportunity to network with other early career researchers on their career paths. Language of the event will be German. Participation is free of charge.
