​​Pursuant to the Building Regulations for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Institute for Metal and Lightweight Structures is approved by the building authorities as a testing laboratory, monitoring body for external monitoring and certification body (PÜZ-Stelle).

With the index N^o NRW71, it is listed in Part IIa of the List of Testing, Monitoring and Certification Bodies pursuant to the Building Regulations of the Federal States (Verzeichnis der Prüf-, Überwachungs- und Zertifizierungsstellen nach den Landesbauordnungen).

With the notice on the recognition dated 01/11/2019 the Institute for Metal and Lightweight Structures is approved by the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) as testing and certification body for the following construction products:

• Testing laboratory for the testing of construction products before confirmation of conformity:
  • for construction products listed in the Administrative Directive of Technical Building Regulations for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (VV TB NRW) Chapter C2, serial number C 2.8.3 „Textile material (tarpaulins) for warehouses and tents“ and
  • for construction products with general building supervisory approval pursuant to serial number 6.1/5 „Coated fabrics (Z-10.5-…)“ and
• Monitoring body for external monitoring:
  • for construction products listed in the Administrative Directive of Technical Building Regulations for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (VV TB NRW) Chapter C2, serial number C 2.8.2 „PVC-coated polyester fabric“ and
  • for construction products with general building supervisory approval pursuant to serial number 6.1/6 „Membranes made of foils or coated fabrics (Z-10.5-…)“ and
• Certification body:
  • for construction products listed in the Administrative Directive of Technical Building Regulations for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (VV TB NRW) Chapter C2, serial number C 2.8.2 „PVC-coated polyester fabric“ and
  • for construction products with general building supervisory approval pursuant to serial number 6.1/6 „Membranes made of foils or coated fabrics (Z-10.5-…)“.

Head of the Testing, Monitoring and Certification Body is Professor Dr.-Ing. habil. Natalie Stranghöner, deputy is Dr.-Ing. Jörg Uhlemann.

Laboratory investigations in the frame of the approved testing laboratory activities are carried out in the Essen Laboratory for Lightweight Structures (ELLF), which belongs to the Institute for Metal and Lightweight Structures.

Due to the approval by the building authorities, the Institute for Metal and Lightweight Structures can also support your application for single case approvals (ZiE) for building projects with technical textiles and foils.
