The Institute for Metal and Lightweight Construction is recognized by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) as a testing, monitoring and certification body (PÜZ body) according to the state building regulations LBO.

It is listed with the code number NRW71 in Part II a of the list of testing, monitoring and certification bodies (PÜZ bodies) according to the state building regulations “Bodies for the verification of conformity of non-regulated construction products and types of construction with the general building approval”.

The head of the PÜZ body is Professor Dr.-Ing. habil. Natalie Stranghöner, deputy heads are Dr.-Ing. Jörg Uhlemann for the competence area of membrane construction and Dr.-Ing. Dominik Jungbluth for the competence area of steel construction.

This makes the Institute for Metal and Lightweight Construction a body recognized by the DIBt for activities in the following areas of Part II a of the list of PÜZ bodies by the LBO:

• Testing laboratory for the testing of construction products before confirmation of conformity:
  • for construction products of the Administrative Regulation Technical Building Regulations for the State of NRW (VV TB NRW) Chapter C2, No. C 2.8.3 “Textile fabrics (tarpaulins) for halls and tents” and
  • for construction products with general building inspectorate approval according to No. 6.1/5 “Coated fabrics (Z-10.5-...)”
•     Monitoring body for external monitoring:
  • for construction products of the Administrative Regulation Technical Building Regulations for the State of NRW Chapter C2 No. C 2.8.2 “PVC-coated polyester fabrics” and
  • No. C 2.4.5.21 “Hot-dip galvanized fittings made of high-strength hexagon bolts with large wrench sizes M39 to M72” and
  • No. C 2.4.5.23 “Threaded rods made of steel of strength classes 5.6, 8.8 and 10.9”
  • for construction products with general technical approval according to No. 6.1/6 “Membranes made of films or coated fabrics (Z-10.5-...)” and
  • No. 4.2/5 “Connecting elements (Z-14.1-... & Z-14.4-...)”
  • No. 4.1/2 “Stainless steels and clamps made of cast materials (Z-30.3-... & Z-70.5-...)”
• Certification body:
  • for construction products of the Administrative Regulation Technical Building Regulations for the State of NRW Chapter C2 No. C 2.8.2 “PVC-coated polyester fabrics” and

The laboratory examinations/tests within the scope of the testing body's activities are carried out in the Essen Laboratory for Lightweight Structures (ELLF) and the Essen Laboratory for Steel Structures (ELSta), which belong to the institute.
