Winter term 2017/18 Scientist in Residence

The Scientist in Residence for the winter term of 2017/18 has been nominated by the Rectorate, paluno – The Ruhr Institute for Software Technology and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Educational Research (IZfB) of the University of Duisburg-Essen. The position will be held by Jan Gulliksen. He is a professor of Human Computer Interaction at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, and an expert in digitalisation.

Digitalisation is one of the most important societal transformation factor in today‘s world and offers new opportunities to develop the ways in which we teach – strategically, organisationally as well as pedagogically. Higher education needs to evolve with the help of digitalisation. By bringing in, for example, “flipped classroom pedagogy“, it could make higher education universally available to everybody, regardless of physical location, functional limitations or economical circumstances. To be able to meet the challenges of the future it is necessary to embrace the opportunities and the transforming powers of digitalisation.
